By the River Changes Ownership But Mission to Take Care of Seniors Remains the Same
ROSELAND, FL, APRIL 29, 2013 – By the River (BTR), the Treasure Coast's non-profit, independent living community for low-income seniors, has been lauded for its successful mission in taking care of the frail elderly. However, its funding model was not financially sustainable. By the River has found a solution with the State to turn the keys over to its original major funder, Florida Housing Finance Corporation (FHFC). BTR is working together with Florida Housing on a simplified foreclosure proceeding. FHFC will then assume financial ownership, management and responsibilities. They have made a l2-year commitment that BTR will operate as a low-income housing community for seniors. For the foreseeable future, all programs, services, and the Congregate Meal Plan provided by the Senior Resource Association will continue and the quality of residents' lives will not be affected in any way. Additionally, FHFC has hired a management company whose intention is to keep all current staff in place to run day-to-day operations. Read More.
