A Benefit for By the River

SEBASTIAN, FL, OCTOBER 22, 2011 -- It will be a day that Sebastian has never seen before. The first-ever paddling race on the St. Sebastian River, "Up the River with a Paddle," will bring together recreational and competitive paddlers alike – kayakers, canoers, stand up paddle boarders and all non-motorized water sports enthusiasts of all skill levels and ages. Organizers aim to draw paddlers from around the state who have heard about the scenic beauty of one of the most diverse natural estuaries in the country – the South Prong of the river. This will be the backdrop of the event, to be held Saturday, November l9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dale Wimbrow Park, 11805 Roseland Road in Sebastian. Proceeds will benefit By the River, the Treasure Coast's independent residential community for low income seniors, founded by spiritual teacher Ma Jaya that is giving them the chance to live affordably in a life-enhancing community. Started by the National Association of Letter Carriers, it is the largest one day food drive in the country. Former Miss USO, her one-woman show is a tribute to many of the divas and female songstresses of the century. "Doin' the Divas" premieres Saturday, April 9th at the Vero Beach Theatre Guild. Ms. Patty, a local celebrity, will give a full performance – her first in 12 years - as a benefit for By the River. She has touched the lives of many children and parents when she was Director of Theatre at the Waxlax Center for the Performing Arts at Saint Edward's School. The River Fund "Feed Everyone" Program Answers Santa's Prayers for 500 People in Need

The 12th Annual "Back to School" School Supply Drive
--Let's Fill 800 Children's Backpacks with New School Supplies--

JULY 22, 2010, VERO BEACH, FL -- For the past l2 years, local community organizers have made a dream come true for children and youth from Gifford and other underserved areas in Indian River County. Backpacks filled with new school supplies have been given to children to help prepare them for school and create a positive new beginning to their school year. Previously held at the Gifford Youth Activity Center, this year's "Back to School" drive will be held at the Indian River County Sheriff's Office due to the need for more space. The event will take place at 4055 41st Street, Vero Beach on Saturday, July 3l from l0:00 a.m. to l2:00 p.m. County Commissioner Joe Flesher will open the event introducing Freddie Woolfork of the Gifford Youth Activity Center.
